Finger Lakes is north of Columbia MO. Haven't been there myself yet, but plan to make it this year for sure. I hear it's excellent riding and also has camping facilities.

I have been there once, it rained and I spent the next two months cleaning mud off the quad, couldnt get it all and decided it would be easier to buy a new quad. It wasnt that bad and the park has a full motocross track, and being a trail rider, I stayed off the track. Overall, I would make a return trip.

Ah Ha! So you're that dude that makes them big ass ruts! I have seen some of your handy work at Deep Water. I'm gonna be the only guy around with a 1500 winch on my 250R before it's over aint I? By the way, if ya ever have to pull AJ out, he usually pays 20 cash per pull incident, so keep that in mind if he hits ya up for a tow!

That is an awesome idea,,,,Toddmac when we go back to DW, I will charge you 180 minutes of my time for the round trip.
I always wondered who I was suppose to complain to about the big ruts that continue to try to swallow my quad,,,,I now know. Great videos by the way. I will have to try to dig up the videos that we took several years ago down and Little Sahara.

Just a heads up... Finger Lakes DOES require the orange flags on atv's. If you forget, they do sell them at the check in shack. Not priced to bad either. Cheaper and easier than driving back into town and searching for one. Nice campground too, but make weekend reservations well in advance during the busy season. If it's wet and you ride a sport atv, take a buddy with a 4x4.

Thanks for the info about the flags, I didn't know that at all. I have heard it's a giant mud hole basically so who knows. That might have to be a trip when it's been dry awhile. I would like to do some camping and riding though so it sounds fun.

I love Finger Lakes, but with the sport bikes, ya gotta catch it when it's dry. There's a mudhole at some point on most every major trail, and those things hold water FOREVER! I stuck a dirt bike in one once and after I got off, it just stood there straight up all on it's own in the middle of that mess. A couple more words of caution about Finger Lakes..... Be careful what you ride down, cause the only way out may be right back up what you just came. NEVER and I repeat NEVER fly blindly over ANY hill, jump, upwards trail etc. if you don't already know for sure what is over the top. If you don't know, get off the bike and walk it first. That whole park is a STRIP PIT area. When you fly over that crest and realize that the water is about 60 feet below you, it's way too late. Oh, and the rangers aren't the least bit amused when you ride along the side of the paved road. You ARE allowed on the road between the staging area and the motocross track though. The staging area has two concrete loading ramps you can back a truck up to, and when no one else is around, they make a fun little jump.
Once you learn your way around a little bit, it's a really neat place. Not a huge area, but a good place to go for something different. The campground is ride in ride out and has a showerhouse and flush toilets.
On the east side of the main road is a swimming beach area. There is (or used to be) a trail that ran along behind it where you can ride along and view the MU girls sun bathing on the weekends.
There is also a public un-supervised gun range just past the entrance to the atv park, and fishing in the main strip pit lake.
If you're not into the camping thing, the park is only about 15 minutes north of Columbia, so hotels and QT are not far away.

Man I sent a response to this yesterday from the Blackberry while waiting on a flight in Atlanta. Where did it go? Anyway, Jeepking, while we really appreciate the novel that you wrote on riding in Finger Lakes, I would caution you in further episodes to document in full your findings. I would suggest taking pictures of the MU girls sunbathing, that way we know that you know what you are talking about. Oh and the other information was good too! lol Thanks for the information, there are several of our riders that may go there and not know what to expect. It reminds me of the first time we went to Little Sahara and someone told me the very same thing, NEVER jump something you don't know what the other side looks like. It became evident when a guy with another group, wound up his 400EX, up the dune he went, unfortunately if he would have looked he would have realized that the backside was 25 to 30 ft straight down, needless to say, when we got there the ambu-buggy was there. Thanks again Jeepking!

I'll work on the picture thing. The wife is supposed to be heading out of town for a weekend in May, so me and the boy will probably plan a riding trip to Finger Lakes. (unless it's too wet, been there done that)

Keep us informed of the weekend in May. That maybe a good time for some of us to meet face to face because frankly you all might just be a bunch of weirdo's like Toddmac. I met him personally and now I just feel I have to be nice to him because we are in this thing together. No offense Toddmac! lol

You don't have to be nice to me, I just figured you were always nice to me because I have those pictures of you and that gerbil in a very incriminating position and ya didn't want me to upload them to youtube...but if you are being nice for another reason, that's good too.
